THE FRUIT WE GROW

Only a few years ago, the ʻĀina (land) was dry, rocky ground, depleted of nutrients and care. After just a few years of cultivation, planting, and mulching, we are now beginning to reap the rich rewards of our labor. Having planted more than 450 fruit trees representing 135 different species, it is our hope to become one of the most biologically diverse farms on Maui.

EXOTIC FEATURED FRUITS

Blue Java Banana; This cultivar has a unique flavor and creamy, custard-like consistency.  It has a sweet, vanilla-like taste and a soft, creamy texture, similar to a traditional custard ice cream.  The fruit is blue-green and slightly plump before ripening. It turns a pale yellow color when mature.

Buddha's Hand is a unique, finger-shaped citrus fruit with a floral, lemony scent and a non-bitter pith.  It is used for its zest and aromatic qualities rather than for its juice or pulp.  Often used in recipes like candied citrus and marmalades, or add thinly sliced pieces to salads or use it to infuse spirits or drinking water.

Indio Mandarinquat is a hybrid fruit from a cross between a mandarin orange and a kumquat. Known for its sweet-tart flavor and edible, thin peel, it is often larger and juicier than a kumquat but smaller than a mandarin, and can be eaten whole.

Pedalai  is a rare tropical tree (Artocarpus sericicarpus) native to Southeast Asia that produces a large, hairy, orange-skinned fruit resembling a giant rambutan. The white, sweet pulp is edible and is considered delicious, while the seeds can be roasted or boiled and eaten like peanuts.

Mamoncillo, is a small, green tropical fruit with a flavor profile that combines aspects of lychee, lime, and mango. To eat it, people typically crack the thin skin and suck the sweet and tangy pulp off the seed inside

Chocolate Sapote is a colloquial name for the black sapote, a tropical fruit from Central and South America that resembles chocolate pudding when ripe. It is a relative of the persimmon and is known for its dark brown, pudding-like pulp that is mildly sweet with hints of chocolate, caramel, or banana.

Kampong Mauve or Purple Sweetsop fruit has a thick, velvety rind with knobby, scale-like segments. The exterior is a dark purple or reddish-purple, while the interior flesh is a creamy white, sometimes with a tinge of purple near the skin.  When fully ripe, the purple sweetsop has a sweet, tropical flavor with notes of vanilla and custard.

Pitangatuba is a rare, star-shaped fruit native to Brazil, also known as the Elongated Star Cherry. It is highly valued for its unique, tangy-sweet flavor, which is reminiscent of tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, and passion fruit.
